Fenway Park Suites – The Best Spot in Boston

Founded in 1901, the Boston Red Sox are a prominent Major League Baseball team, competing in American League as a member of the East Division. The name “Red Sox” was introduced by the team owner, John I. Taylor, in 1908.

The Red Sox were one of the AL’s eight charter franchises and have played in thirteen World Series championships, winning the title nine times. Their most title was the 2018 World Series where the defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers four games to one.

Historically, the Red Sox are one of the most dominant teams in the league. They defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first ever World Series Championship in 1903 (back when the team went by the name Boston Americans). By 1918, Boston had won four more championships. However, they saw one of the longest championship droughts in the history of baseball, which was named the “Curse of the Bambino”. It was an 86-year wait before the team finally won its sixth World Championship in 2004. Red Sox fans all over the world remember this series as Boston crushed the St. Louis Cardinals in a four game sweep to break the curse.

By earning their World Series championship in 2018, the Red Sox became the first franchise to win four championships in the 21st century. The team has an intense rivalry with the New York Yankees, unquestionably the most historic rivalry in American sports. The Red Sox are owned by Fenway Sports Group, the same group that owns Liverpool F.C. of the Premier League.

Though last season’s team struggled through the pandemic-shortened season to a 5th place finish in the AL East and a record of 24-36. Their manager, Alex Cora, is back with the team after missing the 2020 season due to his suspension stemming from the Houston Astros sign stealing scandal. He is ready to put everything behind him and get back to coaching. He expects his team to rise to the occasion and come back strong in 2021.

Fenway Park – A Shrine for Baseball Enthusiasts

Since 1912, Fenway Park has been the home for the Red Sox. The ballpark is located near Kenmore Square in Boston, and has been upgraded many times throughout the years. This ballpark is the oldest active MLB stadium. Among all MLB ballparks, it is the fifth-smallest stadium by seating capacity and the second-smallest by total capacity.

Due to its long history and age, Fenway Park has been renovated and expanded several times, which has resulted in quirky features, such as “The Triangle”, Pesky’s Pole, and the Green Monster. Besides baseball, this significant landmark has also hosted other sporting and cultural events, including professional football games, concerts, hockey games, and political campaigns.

On March 7, 2012, Fenway Park was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It is considered one of the most popular sports venues globally and a symbol of history for Boston. That is mostly likely the reason former pitcher Bill Lee refers to Fenway as “a shrine”.
