Progressive Field
Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio opened in April of 1994 to the delight of their fans. Replacing Cleveland Stadium, the old venue which was shared with the Cleveland Browns, this baseball-only facility is a testament to the Indian faithful. Leaving behind their former home may have been a breath of fresh air for the franchise, as they captured the AL pennant in 1995.
Asymmetrical dimensions and a mini Green Monster out in left field are just a few of the quirks that make this unique stadium an interesting place to play. The ballpark has hosted everything from the MLB All Star Games (including in 2019) to pennant clinching playoff games and World Series games. The only thing left to cross off the list is a World Series clincher and the current team is working on that feat.

This American League original team has been holding a special place in the hearts of Ohio baseball fans for more than a century. However, the former team name had become embroiled in controversy over its offensive nature, bringing forth a major push to change it in recent years. It was announced in July of 2021 that the organization would change their name in the offseason and become the Cleveland Guardians.
After their initial inception as the Grand Rapid Rustlers in 1894, the franchise moved to Cleveland in the year 1900. During the chaos of an ownership change in 1916, manager Lee Fohl made a few key moves under the radar that would pay off in a big way.
Bringing in Stan Coveleski, Jim Bagby, and Tris Speaker ended up being a great move as all three would become key contributors in 1920 when Cleveland would capture their first pennant and go on to their first World Series championship over the Brooklyn Robins.
The years that followed saw the club languishing in the middle of the pack. The year 1936 brought them a phenomenal player who would go on to become an all-time Cleveland favorite. Bob Feller was still a teenager when he joined the team but quickly earned a reputation as an incredible pitcher.
Putting a talented team around him led the team to make a return trip to the World Series in 1948. Ken Keltner, Lou Boudreau, Joe Gordon, Satchel Paige, Bob Lemon, Larry Doby, and Gene Bearden all contributed to the amazing season and series win over the Boston Red Sox.
Unfortunately for the fans of this franchise, 1948 marks the last time an announcer called a game in which Cleveland won the World Series. A snake bitten franchise for the last 70+ years, they are still on the hunt for the next championship.
Four opportunities to recapture the World Series title have eluded this franchise, including the most recent one in 2016. Despite a great season in which they finished 94-67 and their quick work in the playoffs going through the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays, Cleveland fell to the Chicago Cubs in game seven of the World Series. The loss gave the Cubs their first championship since 1908.
Could 2021 be the year they break through to the highest of plateaus and win the World Series? The stage is set for an exciting season, with Manager Terry Francona confident that his guys can muscle through the grueling schedule and make it back to the Fall Classic. Pitching will, undoubtedly, be critical to their success. Zach Plesac, Cal Quantrill, and Triston McKenzie are all solid in the rotation as James Karinchak and Emmanuel Clase trot in late in games to close it out.
The infield is in the midst of a transition which will rely heavily on position players like Jose Ramirez, and Bobby Bradley. Ernie Clement and Owen Miller battle it out to start at second. Acquiring Amed Rosario in a trade with the Mets has Cleveland fans hoping that this young infielder can turn into a top level pro. Early returns are looking good. Bradley Zimmer, Myles Straw, and Franmil Reyes are focused on defending the deep ball. Additional information about the Cleveland’s baseball team of past and present can be found by clicking here.
