Coors Field
Coors Field became the home of the Colorado Rockies shortly after their 1993 expansion into the MLB. Opening its gates for the first time in April of 1995, every Rockies home game has been played at this one of a kind ballpark. In the heart of downtown Denver, this structure has been thought of as a hitter’s paradise for a generation of baseball fans. Adjustments to the outfield walls has evened the playing field a little, but the ball can really zip through that thin mountain air.
Receiving its name from the Coors Brewing Company, Coors Field houses a number of different restaurants with breweries on site. Both food and drink is an essential part of the Coors Field experience.

Based out of the Mile-High City of Denver, the Colorado Rockies have been a fixture of the MLB’s National League West Division since 1993. One of the newest teams in baseball, they have now been in existence for more than a quarter of a century. As such, this franchise does not have an extensive trophy case. Their lone NL pennant was won in 2007 over the Arizona Diamondbacks. It was only the second time two expansion franchises faced each other in the NLCS. The Rockies swept the series before being overmatched by their AL opponent in the World Series. The Boston Red sox made quick work of the Rockies, beating them in four straight games to take home the title of champions of baseball.
The purple pinstripes of the Colorado Rockies are known throughout the league. So, too, are their most famous players from years past. The list of names will always begin with Todd Helton, the consummate Rockies player. Joining him on the list of hometown favorites is Larry Walker (a 2020 MLB Hall of Fame inductee), Troy Tulowitzki, Carlos Gonzalez, Andres Galarraga, and Vinny Castilla.
Despite success hitting the ball in the thin air of the high altitude, pitching has always been the facet of the game that seems to hold back the team. This year, however, things may be changing. The lineup is still teeming with great sluggers. First baseman CJ Cron is intent on proving his worth at this position and really making his mark on Colorado. Second baseman Brendan Rodgers is looking to settle in as a solid pro. Young catcher Elias Diaz and veteran Ryan McMahon are solid contributors, as is Trevor Story, the young shortstop who has grown into an impressive everyday player. The Rockies traded Nolan Arenado in the offseason to St. Louis for a number of players.
The outfield for Colorado is ripe with stars. 2017 NL Batting title champion Charlie Blackmon patrols the grass along with Raimel Tapia and Yonathan Daza. They look out for Sam Hilliard, a young player with a lot of promise. Rockies fans are hoping to see him bloom into a star player before their eyes.
The young pitching staff includes Jon Gray, German Marquez, and Austin Gomber as starters. Looking to finish the game is reliable closer Daniel Bard. Starting pitching talent could be the difference maker this year as the Rockies hope to put together a winning record and make a push for the postseason. Youth and energy could prove a major factor down the stretch in a long and grueling MLB season.
In his fifth year as manager for the Rockies, Bud Black, is eager to come to the ballpark each day and see what he can do with the current squad. After a difficult 2020 that saw the Rockies go 26-34 in the pandemic-shortened season, this club is ready to explode on the baseball diamond and get back to playing playoff baseball.
