RingCentral Coliseum
A famous venue and staple of the Bay area, this stadium opened in 1966 and is most famous for housing both the Oakland Athletics and Oakland Raiders. While the Raiders left both this venue and Oakland altogether, the A’s will continue to call this stadium home.
An older venue that has experienced its fair share of problems over recent years, RingCentral Coliseum is still a great place to catch a game. Between the Raiders and the A’s, there have been many big victories in this building. The energy is electric as you enter the gates and you can feel the passion of the fans in the stands.

From Philadelphia to Kansas City and finally to their current home in Oakland, California, the Athletics have been getting the crowd on their feet since 1901. Charter members of the American League, they have been playing out of the West Division since its inception in 1969. Though the World Series has eluded them in recent history, this franchise has had a tremendous amount of success historically.
Winners of nine World Series titles over the years, the Oakland Athletics have captured 15 American League pennants in their long baseball history. This success gives little consolation to the current fan base, however, as their last trip to the Fall Classic was in 1990 and their last championship was in 1989.
This famous series, often referred to as the “Bay Bridge Series” or the “Earthquake Series” saw the Oakland Athletics square off against their neighbor and biggest rival, the San Francisco Giants. Up two games to none, the Athletics travelled to San Francisco and were minutes away from the start of game three when a major earthquake rocked the city. Measuring in at a magnitude 6.9, this quake devastated the bay area. Manager Tony La Russa was able to reel his players in and have them focus on the game. When the series resumed 10 days later, the Athletics won games three and four to sweep the series in convincing fashion.
Today’s squad would like to advance to the World Series again, while avoiding a natural disaster. 2018 Manager of the Year Bob Melvin has his hands full, leading a group that posted a regular season record of 36-24 in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season to win the AL West and the Wild Card series against the White Sox before surrendering three games out of four to Houston. Despite this loss, there is a lot of reason for optimism for the A’s. The goal for this year is to improve on last season and push even further. The veteran pitching staff featuring Chris Bassitt, James Kaprielian, and Frankie Montas along with Sean Manea and Cole Irvin will be instrumental in putting together a winning season.
The lineup is a mix of talent that has been molded into a cohesive unit. Veteran outfielder Mark Canha leads a group that includes Ramon Laureano and Starling Marte. These guys can track down anything hit deep. Young catcher Sean Murphy plays behind the plate while Gold Glovers Matt Olson and Matt Chapman takes their places at first and third respectively. The middle is patrolled by newly acquired veterans in Jed Lowrie (second base) and Elvis Andrus (shortstop). Josh Harrison was traded to the A’s from Washington and is a great utility player.
Success in Oakland is something that the fans have come to expect. Melvin and company have figured out the formula and intend to put it to good use before the hometown crowd at the RingCentral Coliseum. Among those most remembered for the mark they left on baseball fans in this Bay City are Tony La Russa, Mark McGwire, Jose Canseco, Dennis Eckersley, Reggie Jackson, Catfish Hunter, Rollie Fingers, and Rickey Henderson.
