NHL Winter Classic Suites
A Luxury box (also referred to as a luxury suite, corporate box, corporate suite, executive box, sky box or a private box) is a special private seating section located within stadiums, arenas and other sporting and entertainment venues. They are typically located in the midsection of a stadium grandstand, usually providing the best views of the event. Some have glass panels that can be opened, in order for the spectators to feel closer to and more immersed in the action of the event.
Luxury suite ticket holders often receive exclusive access to an indoor part of the venue through private club entrances, to areas containing special restaurants, merchandise stands, and lounge areas of the venue that are not otherwise available to regular ticket holders.

The NHL Winter Classic has become an annual tradition featuring two great teams in an outdoor game on New Year’s Day. Adding some excitement to what would otherwise be a normal regular season game, these matchups quickly become an historic hockey event when held at iconic football or baseball stadiums in an area with a resident NHL team.
The inaugural NHL Winter Classic featured the Pittsburgh Penguins against the Buffalo Sabres at Ralph Wilson Stadium (now known as Bills Stadium) in Buffalo, NY. This incredible game went to overtime with the score tied 1-1. Unable to break the stalemate in the extra session, it would take a shootout to determine the winner of this contest.
Pittsburgh’s captain, Sidney Crosby, would score on Buffalo’s Ryan Miller in the sixth round of the shootout to cement the victory for his club as the snow fell gently onto the playing surface. This picturesque view along with all the action of NHL hockey brought about a new hockey institution which the NHL would come to expand upon.
Since then, the NHL has hosted NHL Winter Classic games at the following locations:
- 2009 – Wrigley Field in Chicago, IL
