The Houston Astros are a very popular American professional baseball team based out of Houston, Texas. Currently, they are a member club of the AL (American League) West division of the MLB.
After 51 seasons in the National League, the Astros made the move to the AL in 2013.
The Astros were originally established as the Houston Colt .45s and adopted their current name in 1965when they moved into the Astrodome, the first domed sports stadium. They would remain there until 2003, when they began playing their home games at Minute Maid Park.
Previously named ‘The Ballpark at Union Station’, ‘Enron Field’, and ‘Astros Field’, Minute Maid Park is located in downtown Houston. This spectacular ballpark is Houston’s very first retractable-roofed venue and features a natural grass playing field.
Minute Maid Park is truly a one-of-a-kind ballpark. It was constructed around the historic Union Station, which now houses the ballpark’s main lobby and Astros offices. The option to completely close the roof this magnificent venue is ideal as it allows for protection from the rain or the blazing Texas heat.
The naming rights of Minute Maid Park were acquired by the beverage brand Minute Maid (a subsidiary of The Coca-Cola Company) in 2002 for $100 million. As of 2016, this stadium has a capacity of nearly 41,000 seats including 5,197 club seats and 63 luxurious Minute Maid Park Boxes.
