Baylor came out strong against the intimidating Gonzaga squad. Not backing down, Baylor controlled with first half. Starting on a 9-0 run, they never looked back. Up 47-37 at the half, Gonzaga was determined to climb back into this one. However, the Bears were having none of it. They increased their lead again before Gonzaga began chipping away at it, eventually coming within single digits points. Baylor’s final push brought them on an 11-1 run to take back total control. Their domination all over the court led to a 86-70 victory and the first NCAA basketball championship for the Baylor Bears.
