First Energy Stadium
Debuting at the start of the 1999 NFL season, FirstEnergy Stadium is the home of the Cleveland Browns. Since then, this great venue has filled each Sunday with fans in the Dawg Pound, rabidly seeking a playoff berth. Located on the site of the old Cleveland Stadium, the new building was commissioned for the second coming of Browns football in Cleveland.
Erected from concrete and glass, with natural stone accents, FirstEnergy Stadium features a surface of Kentucky bluegrass which is kept from freezing through the use of an underground heating system. The real grass adds to the feel of old time football.
While this venue has hosted everything from NFL games to NCAA football to Men’s and Women’s Soccer to FIFA World Cup Soccer and major concert tours, the only thing left on the list is a Browns playoff game. The fans in Cleveland hope that they can check this off their list in the near future.

A truly historic franchise with an interesting past, the Cleveland Browns were established in 1946. Playing through the 1995 season, the team left Cleveland for Baltimore and became the Ravens. The city of Cleveland, upset by the loss of the team and desperate for football, announced the expansion Browns in 1998 and began playing again in 1999.
The old Browns are remembered for their dominance on the football field, reaching the championship game every season between 1946 and 1955, winning seven titles along the way with quarterback Otto Graham leading the charge. They also had the honor of rooting for Jim Brown, perhaps the greatest running back of all-time. The early years for the Browns were marked with unprecedented success.
However, since 1964, their last championship winning season, Cleveland has been one of the most snake bitten franchises in all of sports. It has been more than half a century since the Browns were champions. While many great players have rushed onto the field in Browns uniforms, no team has put together the kind of season that would bring them a Lombardi Trophy.
More than 25 quarterbacks have started for the Cleveland Browns since 1999. A slew of free agent and draft pick busts have constantly disrupted the efforts to rebuild this once premier franchise back into a winner. However, with the drafting of Baker Mayfield in 2018, the dark times in Cleveland appear to be over.
Using the first pick in the 2018 NFL draft to select quarterback Baker Mayfield out of Oklahoma, fans in the Dawg Pound have watched this young QB grow into a star before their very eyes. The early results looked very promising as Mayfield put together a great rookie year. While he endured a rough sophomore season, he looked better than ever in his third year.
A five win improvement over last year put the Browns at an impressive 11-5 record in 2020. Management’s decision to bring in Kevin Stefanski to turn things around has paid off early. The Browns made it to the playoffs for the first time since 2002. A classic wild card game against the division rival Pittsburgh Steelers saw the Browns win by a score of 48-37. They would face the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round. KC was able to edge them in that game by a score of 22-17. While the ending was disappointing, Cleveland proved themselves this year put everyone on notice for 2021.
Stefanski has a ton of talent to work with as running back Nick Chubb rushed for over 1,000 yards for the second straight season with Kareem Hunt not far behind. The receiving tandem of Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham, Jr. is awesome. Getting Beckham back healthy in 2021 is a priority for this team. Stefanski is hoping to expand upon his great first year by putting together a championship run. The Browns elected to take Jedrick Wills Jr. with their first round draft pick in 2020. The tenth overall pick, this offensive tackle does his best to keep the QB upright and clean.
Defensively, the Browns had upgraded through the draft by picking up Myles Garrett with the 2018 1st overall pick. Defensive end Olivier Vernon was added through a trade with the New York Giants last offseason to strengthen the resolve up front. Andrew Sendejo sets up shop in the backfield. Add to the mix the number four overall pick from 2018, Denzel Ward, a dynamic cornerback, and suddenly the Cleveland defense is looking even stronger. They further supplemented this spot with the 46th overall pick in 2019, Greedy Williams from LSU. Coming over from Los Angeles prior to the 2021 season was Troy Hill and John Johnson. These are two dangerous players in the backfield who make quarterbacks think twice before throwing their way. Added to their ranks for 2021 will be Greg Newsome. The Browns picked up this talented cornerback with the 26th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
There is a long way to go before this group will raise the Lombardi Trophy, but with hard work and determination, Coach Stefanski may have his squad ready to make a push. Looking at the past great players for the Browns inspires the current squad. There have been many of them in Cleveland over the years including Bernie Kosar, Clay Matthews, Jr., Joe Thomas, Ozzie Newsome, Otto Graham, and Jim Brown.
