Yankee Stadium
Located just across the street from the site of the old Yankee Stadium, the new venue, which opened in 2009, is the embodiment of late Yankees owner George Steinbrenner’s dream ballpark. Keeping the history and culture of the Yankees close to heart, and complete with the iconic frieze facade that crowned the upper deck at the previous field, Yankee Stadium succeeds in melding both old and new to create an impressive structure enjoyed by Yankees fans across all generations.
There are some incredible features of this stadium that illustrate the rich history of this organization, including a Yankees museum on the lower level and the famous Monument Park located behind the center field fence, where the greatest players ever to wear the Yankees pinstripes are enshrined.
Luxury was definitely a priority during the construction of this venue. A New York Yankees suite is a valuable asset for both business and pleasure. The pinstripe home uniform of the New York Yankees is one of the most recognizable sights in all of sports. When you think of all the unbelievable players to have suited up for the Yankees over the years, it is not hard to imagine how they have amassed 27 World Series Titles. All-time greats such as Phil Rizzuto, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Thurman Munson, Reggie Jackson, Don Mattingly, Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Lou Gehrig, and Babe Ruth have all worn the pinstripes with pride. Mariano Rivera was the most recent Yankee inducted into the Hall of Fame (in 2019, and the first unanimous selection), with more on the way as Derek Jeter will head to Cooperstown in 2020 for his induction as well.
Affectionately known as the house that Ruth built, the original Yankee Stadium was in use from 1923 until 2008 and hosted more than its fair share of amazing October baseball in addition to countless iconic MLB moments. Opening the new Yankee Stadium in 2009, fans of the Bronx Bombers are hopeful that the new building will host even more unforgettable action.
Their intense rivalry with the Boston Red Sox has turned into an all-out war on the baseball diamond, drawing the attention of fans from around the country. These hard-fought games are always circled on the calendar and never disappoint.
Despite championship droughts from 1963 to 1977 and again from 1979 to 1996, the mantra of this ball club has always been one of hard work, dedication, and victory.
This lineup has the talent. It’s all about execution. Brett Gardner has become the elder statesman for a dugout teeming with young talent and veteran stars. Luke Voit and Gio Urshela have settled into the infield very well and are growing into solid young pros. Grabbing Anthony Rizzo from Chicago at the trade deadline added a three time Gold Glover ready to play first base. Young shortstop Gleyber Torres had a good outing in 2020 and looks to put up even better numbers next season. Catchers Gary Sanchez and Kyle Higashioka will battle it out behind the plate to get the starting nod. Giancarlo Stanton missed most of last two seasons due to injury, but is back and ready to be a reliable hitter in the DH spot. Locking up DJ LeMahieu to a six year $90 million contract cements the second baseman (who finished third in AL MVP voting after winning the AL batting title) on the starting lineup.
Gardner stands tall in center field, flanked by Joey Gallo and Aaron Judge. The 2017 AL Rookie of the Year and Home Run Champ, Judge is the biggest star on this roster. Working on a one year deal in 2021, Judge is looking to lock up his spot long-term with a monster contract. Will New York give him the deal he is seeking?
A rotation that starts with Gerrit Cole is always nice to have, and the Yankees secured that by signing the right handed pitcher away from Houston on a nine year deal worth $324 million. This record-setting deal puts a lot of pressure on the starter, but with the club he has around him they could end the season with a World Series title. Jameson Taillon, Jordan Montgomery, Domingo German, and Andrew Heaney round out the rest of the rotation with Aroldis Chapman closing it out in the ninth.
Coming out the gate charging in 2020, New York settled in and finished the year with a 33-27 overall record which earned them 2nd place in the AL East. Closing out the Wild Card against Cleveland 2-0, New York pushed Tampa to the brink before being eliminated in the ALDS in a 3-2 series. Manager Aaron Boone always has his finger on the pulse of this club and knows how to get the most out of them. He has World Series aspirations for 2021.
Will the Yankees complete the 2021 season with another World Series to add to their collection? The current roster will do everything in their power to bring another championship to New York. For more information about the New York Yankees click here.
