LUMEN Field
Since first opening its doors in 2002, Lumen Field (previously known as CenturyLink Field) has become one of the most prominent stadiums in the NFL. The iconic U-shaped open roof directs the sound of the raucous crowd back down onto the field, resulting in a major home field advantage for the Seahawks. While the home team’s offense calls their plays and makes their adjustments at the line easily with the help of a quiet crowd, the opposition faces a deafening cacophony of sound sure to cause confusion and miscommunication. The crowd noise causes such issues that they are thought of as another player, leading to their nickname, the “12th Man”.

This NFL franchise joined the league as an expansion team in 1976. Having persevered through some lean years, the Seahawks have grown into an absolutely dominant force in the NFC West. When he purchased the team in 1996, the late Paul Allen sought to build a winning club and that is just what he did, culminating with a Super Bowl title in 2013.
While the Seahawks made it all the way back to the Super Bowl in 2014, back to back championships were not in the cards. Making the playoffs six out of the eight seasons since hoisting the Lombardi, the 2022 season has an entirely different feel to it. While Pete Carroll is still the head coach of this team, his franchise quarterback Russell Wilson has been traded to the Denver Broncos.
Geno Smith, a journeyman veteran, has won the job to become the Seahawks starter. Former Broncos QB Drew Lock became the backup as part of the Wilson deal. Carroll has had to evaluate the talent and have his players compete for the starting role. As it was Smith who emerged victorious, he will have the luxury of throwing to elite receivers in DK Metcalf and Tylor Lockett. Noah Fant (also from the trade with Denver) will line up as a viable target at tight end.
Seattle’s thundering defense has gone through a bit of an overhaul itself in recent years, with Bobby Wagner as the last member of the Legion of Boom to leave the Seahawks. Jordyn Brooks will lead from the linebacker position while Shelby Harris and Poona Ford try to bring down the QB behind the line. Quandre Diggs is a beast in the backfield, snatching passes away from receivers from the safety position.
While the loss of Wilson throws a wrench into the plans for the 2022 season, there is still a lot of talent on this roster. The formula may be different, but Pete Carroll and company may be able to find a way to win games in the ultra-competitive NFC West.
Legendary players for the Seattle Seahawks include Steve Largent, Marshawn Lynch, Russell Wilson, Earl Thomas, Richard Sherman, and Walter Jones. See all of the action from the Seattle Seahawks suites. Click here for more information about the Seattle Seahawks history.
