HIGHMARK Stadium
Picturesque Orchard Park in upstate New York is where you will find Highmark Stadium, the home stadium of the Buffalo Bills. More than 40 years of football have been played at this great venue, including some of the biggest games in Bills history.
Originally known as Rich Stadium, and then Ralph Wilson Stadium (after the team’s former owner) before becoming New Era Field and then Bills Stadium, this tremendous suburban Buffalo open-air venue is currently known as Highmark Stadium. The brutal winter weather conditions dictated that it be necessary for a synthetic playing surface and so Buffalo has always played on an AstroTurf field.
In addition to Bills games, Highmark Stadium has hosted soccer, baseball, rugby, track and field, NCAA football, and even the first NHL Winter Classic game. Plenty of major concert tours have come through this stadium including Eric Clapton, The Grateful Dead, The Who, Dave Matthews Band, The Jackson Five, Van Halen, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, and many more.
There are more than 120 luxury suites at this great venue. The cold climate reinforces the desire for comfort during football games, especially later in the season. VIP parking will put you and your guests close to the building. Upon entering the suite, the great seating options will have you relaxed throughout the game. HDTVs will ensure that you do not miss any action from around the league, and the amazing catering options will only add to the splendor of the overall experience.

The cold weather in upstate New York makes for an incredible backdrop for football. Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, NY, home to the Buffalo Bills, has hosted many of these epic contests. Continuing to search for their first Super Bowl championship, the Bills faithful pour into this venue week after week, braving the elements to cheer on their hometown heroes.
The Bills originated in 1960 as an AFL team and won back to back championships in their early years. They made it to the AFL Championship again in 1966, the third year in a row, but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. Following the merger, Buffalo could not seem to replicate their AFL success. A major drop-off in their level of play saw the team make the playoffs only three times between 1967 and 1986, with one postseason win to their credit.
1986 marked a change for the Bills as Jim Kelly moved from the USFL to the NFL. Buffalo’s 1983 first round draft pick brought with him a tremendous amount of talent and strength. His leadership was exactly what Buffalo was missing. A tough competitor that never backed down, Kelly added to a talented roster that, under new head coach Marv Levy, was poised for a major turnaround. By 1988, the Bills had reached the AFC Championship game, losing to Cincinnati 21-10.
What followed in the next four seasons was as unprecedented as it was heartbreaking. The Buffalo Bills would top the AFC in 1990, 91, 92, and 93, reaching the Super Bowl four years in a row. However, this AFC dynasty would lose each title game. Despite their dominant play and recognizable stars such as Bruce Smith, Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed, Cornelius Bennett, Steve Tasker, and others, the Bills could never break through and make it to the stage where the confetti would fall on them as champions.
Buffalo has not reached the big game again since 1993. The team pressed forward with success, making the playoffs almost every season until 1999. However, going into the 2020 season, the Bills had only made the playoffs twice in the new millennium and hadn’t had a postseason win since 1995. This was all about to change. Going 13-3 in the regular season, Buffalo won the AFC East for the first time since 1995. A 27-24 win over the Colts in the AFC Wild Card game set them up against a tough Baltimore team in the divisional round. The Bills crushed the Ravens 17-3 and advanced to the AFC Championship game to take on the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. It was a tough game for Buffalo in their 38-24 loss to KC, but there is a lot to be gained. This young team has gained a ton of experience and confidence which they will put to use next season in their quest to finally bring home the Lombardi Trophy.
Former Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott now has four full seasons of coaching the Bills under his belt. Management has continued to make moves in an effort to give McDermott a better roster with which to work.
The team is led by third year quarterback Josh Allen. Bills fans were excited to see him progress after a good first year into a solid starter for the future. He made the jump to superstar in 2020. The Bills also have plenty of talent in second year running back Devin Singletary. Adding wide receivers Stefon Digges from Minnesota) and Cole Beasley (from Dallas) this year has gone a long way for this group. Diggs went over 1,500 yards receiving, giving Allen a great option on passing plays. Adding Emmanuel Sanders to this group only makes it sweeter.
The defense has also emerged as a punishing force, and the defensive-minded McDermott had a big hand in building this group into a powerhouse. He already got a boost from the selection of Tre’Davious White in the first round of the 2017 draft and the signing of former Green Bay Packer Micah Hyde at Safety. Veteran safety Josh Norman plays a key role on this side of the ball. The Bills selected Ed Oliver with the 9th overall draft pick in 2019. This punishing defensive tackle has definitely increased the intensity of the d-line which already features Jerry Hughes and Mario Addison. Tremaine Edwards and Jordan Poyer are tremendous in the tackling game. The Bills picked up defensive end Gregory Rousseau from Miami with the 30th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He joins this talented group and will fight to start for the Bills.
Buffalo’s rich history as contenders has brought some top level talent through their locker room over the years. The greatest competitors for this franchise include Bruce Smith, Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed, OJ Simpson, Cornelius Bennett, Steve Tasker, and Darryl Talley.
